(OSHAWA, ONTARIO) The United States moved to 3-0 with a big win over Australia and shares the lead in Pool A with Canada which also moved to 3-0 with a win over Wales. Japan is first in Pool C at 4-0 with a win over Sweden. Israel, in it’s first-ever World Cup, is the surprise team of the tournament standing atop Pool D at 4-0. Ireland, New Zealand and the Netherlands share the lead at 3-1 in Pool B after Ireland’s win over Finland, the Netherlands’ win over Latvia and New Zealand’s (previously unbeaten) loss to Scotland.

United States 18 (3-0), Australia 9 (1-2)
(Excerpt from LaxMagazine.com) The U.S.-Australia game has traditionally been a passionate but low-scoring women’s lacrosse rivalry. The last time the two teams met in Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) play, in the 2009 Women’s World Cup final in Prague, the Americans won 8-7. Once, the Australians eked out a 2-1 victory in pool play during the 1989 games in Perth, Australia.
That was not the case Sunday in Oshawa. The U.S-Australia game had both passion and points, as the Americans raced to an 18-9 victory. It was the highest combined score in the history of the matchup in FIL play, topping the 2001 championship in High Wycombe, England, which the U.S. won 14-8.
U.S. team captain and Player of the Match Lindsey Munday scored a goal and provided four assists. Katrina Dowd (6G-1A) netted a double hat trick, Sarah Bullard (3G) also had a hat trick. Rounding out the US scoring: Kristen Igoe (2G-1A), Katie Rowan (2G), Katie Schwarzmann (1G-1A), Danielle Etrasco (1G), Ally Carey (1G) and Sarah Albrecht (1G).
Proving the offense for the Aussies: Hannah Nielsen (3G), Stacey Sullivan (2G-1A), Lyndsey Paton (2G), Sarah Mollison (1G) and Cassandra Cursaro (1G).

Canada 18 (3-0), Wales 5 (0-4)
Canada remains unbeaten in pool play with a big 18-5 win over Wales on Sunday.
The Welsh stayed close in the first half which ended 8-5 in favor of the Canadians. The rest of the match was a different story altogether. Team Canada’s defense shut out Wales in the second half, allowing no goals and only five shots on goal while netting 10 goals of their own.
A balanced attack served Canada well as eleven players scored goals led by Mandy Friend’s (3G) and Megan Takacs’ (3G) hat tricks. Emily Boissonneault (2G-1A), Crysti Foote (2G), Kaylin Morissette (2G), Dana Dobbie (1G-3A) Abbey Friend (1G-2A) Vanessa Vanderzalm (1G), Lydia Sutton (1G), Katie Brooks (1G) and Brooke Eubanks (1G) provided the rest of the scoring for Canada.
On the other side of the pitch, Ros Lloyd Rout (3G-1A) scored a hat trick and added an assist for Wales. Iona Dryden and Lucy Wray Mercey both added a goal and an assist.
Canada now sits atop Pool A along with the United States, also undefeated at 3-0. The two square off to decide the winner of Pool A at 8:00PM ET on Tuesday on Field 1.

Japan 23 (4-0), Sweden 0 (0-4)
Japan continues it’s dominating World Cup effort with a shut out of Sweden. The win puts Japan, still undefeated, on the top of Pool C at 4-0.
While Japan’s stellar defense was limiting Sweden to just three shots in the game (none in the entire first half), the offense was pouring it on with five players scoring hat tricks. In all, eleven players scored goals for Japan: Akiko Wada (3G-5A), Nanae Iizuka (3G-3A), Ryoko Ikura (3G-3A), Mai Kemmochi (3G-1A), Rie Mito (3G), Yuko Kobori (2G-2A), Eriko Ogawa (2G), Sachiko Nomura (1G-1A), Kazumi Sugo (1G), Misaki Takayanagi (1G) and Nodoka Shibuya (1G).
Japan prepares for a battle of the undefeated when they face Israel (4-0 atop Pool C) at 11:30AM ET on Tuesday on Field 5.

The Irish rode the goal scoring of Caroline Peters (5G-1A) to improve to 3-1 and a tie for first place with the Netherlands and New Zealand in Pool B. Six other players added goals for Ireland.

Scotland 8 (3-1), New Zealand 3 (3-1)
Player of the Match – Scotland’s Susan Clark
Scotland used staunch defense and timely offense to defeat the previously unbeaten Kiwis 8-3.
Scotland limited New Zealand to one shot on goal in the first half. When New Zealand roared back in the second, goalkeeper Chloe Hunt was up to the task making seven saves and allowing just three goals on 13 shots to help preserve the win for Ireland.
Eleanor Bygroves (3G) picked up a hat trick and POTM Susan Clark added a goal and three assists.
Katie Knaus scored two goals and Sarah Butler added the other for New Zealand.

Israel 19 (3-0), South Korea 2 (1-3)
Player of the Match – South Korea’s Yuri Cho
First time World Cup participant Israel continues it’s winning ways with a convincing 19-2 win over South Korea.
Lauren Dykstra (5G) and Kimberly Dubansky (2G-2A) provided punch to an Israeli offense that saw eleven players net goals.
Garam Na and Eunah Choi scored the lone two South Korean goals.

Haudenosaunee 16 (3-1), Germany 9 (1-3)
Player of the Match – Haudenosaunee’s Amber Hill
The Haudenosaunee bounced back after a disappointing loss to Japan on Saturday that knocked them out of the ranks of the unbeaten to defeat Germany 16-9 on Sunday.
Leading the offense for the Haudenosaunee was Trenna Hill (4G-1A), Naomi Walser (3G-3A) and Alie Jimerson (3G-1A).
Charlotte Biffar (3G) provided a hat trick and Anna Blank netted two more for Germany.
Austria 15 (3-1), Hong Kong 6 (0-3)
Player of the Match – Austria’s Daniela Zlobl
Austria improved to 3-1 with it’s win over Hong Kong.
Keiko Muramatsu (3G) netted a hat trick for Hong Kong and Isabelle Schimek (5G) led all scorers with five tallies for Austria.
Netherlands 9 (3-1), Latvia 5 (0-4)
Player of the Match – the Netherlands’ Mieke den Bakker
The Dutch sit in a three-way tie on top of Pool C with Austria and New Zealand after an 9-5 win over Latvia on Sunday.
Mieke den Bakker, Kimberly Vuurboom and Dieke Spitzen led the Dutch scorers with 2 goals apiece.
Liva Araja and Madara Dulevska scored two goals each for the Latvians.
Day 5 – Monday, July 15

Israel 19 (4-0), Hong Kong 4 (0-4)
(Excerpt from Israel Lacosse) The playoff-bound Israel women’s national lacrosse team outmatched Hong Kong, 19-4, at Oshawa Civic Recreation Complex on Sunday.
Israel took command of the Hong Kong match early, as Jenna Block powered the offense in the opening minutes. Block fed from behind the goal to earn four quick assists as Israel built a 5-0 lead. She finished with two goals and four assists to earn Player of the Match honors.
Kim Dubansky (four goals), Lauren Dykstra (four goals), Ali Curwin (three goals, one assist), Amanda Schwab (two goals, one assist), Ifat Ribon (two goals), Nicole Sawdaye (one goal, one assist), Nikki Avershal (one goal) and Sarah Meisenberg (four assists) rounded out the scoring.
Julia Szafman (60:00, 4 saves, 4 GA) earned the win in goal.
Keiko Muramatsu (three goals), Allison Lee (one goal) and Ka Hei Lorrie (one assist) led Hong Kong in scoring. Chung Shi Lo (60:00, 4 saves, 19 GA) was credited the loss in goal.
The 12-team World Cup playoffs begin on Wednesday, July 17th; Israel’s final “crossover” game against Japan tomorrow will determine their playoff seed (6th through 8th).
USA, Australia, Canada, England and Wales automatically are seeded 1st through 5th; the top four teams receive byes to Thursday’s quarterfinals.
