Costa Rica Lacrosse Sporting Federation Becomes Full Member of World Lacrosse

March 12, 2021

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO, USA – World Lacrosse (WL) is announcing today
that its member-National Governing Body in Costa Rica, the Costa Rica Lacrosse
Sporting Federation, is being elevated to Full Member status with the international
federation for men’s and women’s lacrosse.

As a Full Member, the Costa Rica Lacrosse Sporting Federation is eligible to have a
voting delegate participate in the annual World Lacrosse General Assembly. In addition,
National Teams representing Costa Rica are now eligible to advance to the championship
bracket and win medals in all WL World Championship events.

The recommendation to elevate the Costa Rica Lacrosse Sporting Federation to Full
Member was made by the World Lacrosse Development Committee and approved by
unanimous vote of the WL Board of Directors.

“The leadership in Costa Rica has worked tirelessly over the past year to continue the
growth of the sport and their organization,” said Bob DeMarco, World Lacrosse Board of
Directors Member and Development Director. “World Lacrosse is very pleased with the
commitment they have made to attracting new participants and the start of a domestic
6v6 league.”

“Being a Full Member of World Lacrosse represents a great leap to lacrosse in Costa
Rica and is a recognition of the very hard work of our administrative team and players
alike,” said Walter Rojas, President of the Costa Rica Lacrosse Sporting Federation. “As
Costa Ricans, we believe that we can contribute to the lacrosse global picture by sharing
our experience and values with the rest of the world.”

Recent notable achievements for the Costa Rica Lacrosse Sporting Federation include:

• Competing in the 2019 World Lacrosse Men’s Box Lacrosse World Championship
in Langley, British Columbia
• Increasing participation in scholastic programs and school-age athlete recreational
tournaments
• Increasing participation in women’s lacrosse

The Costa Rica Lacrosse Sporting Federation joins the Croatia Lacrosse
Association, Uganda Lacrosse Association, Puerto Rico Lacrosse and the Hungarian
Lacrosse Association as members of World Lacrosse that have been elevated to Full
Member in the past year.

Emblematic of the rapid growth of lacrosse around the globe, during the last 18 months
(October 2019-March 2021) World Lacrosse has welcomed five new member-National
Governing Bodies and now represents 68 member-NGBs worldwide.
