Australia handles Netherlands 18-7 to advance to the quarterfinals

Australia handled Netherlands, the 13th seed, in an 18-7 win in the first round of the playoffs at the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship to book a spot in the quarterfinals.

The Netherlands hung tough throughout the first half, and scored early in the second to cut Australia’s lead to 7-5.

Australia then ripped off a six-goal run, sparked by three assists and a goal from Conor McDonough, to take a commanding 13-5 lead.

Australia dominated on face-offs, winning 24 of 28.

Australia will face England in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 10 a.m. at SDSU Sports Deck, in a rematch of the team’s opening match in Pool A. Australia narrowly prevailed in that contest, 5-4.
