World Lacrosse is highlighting its All-World athletes from past world championships to celebrate their outstanding performances.
Miriam Suares-Jury made her debut at a World Lacrosse Championship in 2024 at the Women’s U20 Championship in Hong Kong, China in August.
She led Australia to a fourth place finish with an outstanding campaign in midfield, and was the only Australia athlete named to the World Team.
Suares-Jury scored 18 goals and added two assists, as well as eight ground balls, four caused turnovers and 27 collections of draw controls over the course of the championship. She was named the Most Valuable Player for Australia’s pool play contest against Italy, and also added two goals in a quarterfinal win over Wales.
In January of 2025, Suares-Jury suited up again for Australia at the Asia Pacific Women’s Lacrosse Championship in Queensland, where Australia claimed the silver medal on home soil and secured qualification for the 2026 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship in Tokyo, Japan.
Below is a short Q and A with Suares-Jury on her international experience:
What are you most proud of when it comes to representing Australia internationally?
When representing Australia internationally I’m most proud of being able to join the group of people who have played for Australia before me and to follow in their footsteps. I feel so proud to play for everyone who has supported me and helped me become the player I am today.
What is your favorite team memory in your international experience?
My favorite memory from my international experience would be when Marley Dawson won MVP in one of our games because I saw how hard she worked throughout the whole campaign and it was so special to see her play so well and get rewarded for it. I loved being able to step onto the field and to play with some of my best friends who I’ve played with since I first picked up a stick.

What do you think is the best skill that allows you to be successful?
I think my best skill is my speed, because it allows me to have a quick first step when I’m dodging and it means I can push fast breaks which has helped me to be successful.

What do you think is one underrated secret/tip to your position that fans might not know about that helps you?
A tip that has made me better has been watching competitive college lacrosse games from the last five years to be able to see the level of lacrosse that I should be living up to. Being able to play with and against more experienced midfielders than me growing up encouraged me to try to play at their standard as well.
What are you excited most about in your future in international competition?
In international competition I am most excited about the possibility to play for the Olympic team and represent Australia at the highest level. I can’t wait to have the opportunity to play lacrosse in the Olympics that people before me haven’t had.
