The quarterfinals are underway on Day Five of the European Sixes Lacrosse Championship in Salou, Spain, with Israel, Germany, Great Britain and Czechia all qualifying for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships in Colorado Springs.
Israel charged past the Netherlands 20-7 to seal its place. Kendall Halpern led the way with six goals and an assist, while goalkeeper Orly Sedransk was strong at the other end with a 50% save rate. The Netherlands’ Friede Berendsen had another solid outing in the cage, making 17 saves.
Germany then claimed the second ticket with a 14-10 upset of Italy. Laura Delker was huge for the Germans with three goals, while Italy’s Danielle Perfetto continued her strong form with four goals.
In the third quarterfinal of the day, Great Britain handled Poland in a 23-4 result. Minty Loxton took charge with six goals and three assists, while Great Britain’s defense continued its strong campaign with just 16 shots allowed total.
Czechia won the last quarterfinal, 11-3 with a dominant defensive showing against Ireland. Katerina Najemnikova made 11 saves on 13 shots faced at an 85% clip in one of the most impactful goalkeeping performances of the championship. Offensively, Marketa Malinovska provided the spark with two goals and five assists.
Sweden then beat hosts Spain 12-4, but one of the moments of the day came before the first draw. In a touching show of sportsmanship, the Spanish players presented an injured Zadie Besev with flowers.
Qualification hopes remain alive for the Netherlands and Italy.
