The Philippines women are heading to Colorado Springs after edging Chinese Taipei 14-12 in overtime in the opening women’s Playoffs Play-in match. Their place in the medal matches means they join the Philippines men in qualifying.
The day opened with China women dominating India 24-3. Hong Kong, China followed with a commanding 21-0 shutout of Singapore.
India got the men’s action under way with a 14-9 win over Singapore. Hong Kong, China then kept its qualification hopes alive with an 18-11 win over New Zealand in a hard-fought, physical contest. Chinese Taipei men closed out the opening block by pulling away from Korea for a 13-3 win.
The intensity lifted as the women’s Playoffs Play-in matches got under way. The first was level at the end of regulation and needed overtime to separate the sides, before the Philippines pulled clear to close out a 14-12 victory over Chinese Taipei.
The result sends the Philippines into the medal matches and secures their place in Colorado Springs, alongside the Philippines men.
The final match of the day sees Korea face New Zealand in the second women’s Play-in, with a place in the medal matches on the line.
