The International World Games Association has confirmed that men’s and women’s sixes lacrosse will be contested at The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The World Games 2029 will mark lacrosse’s fourth appearance at the multi-sport event, and the second time both men’s and women’s sixes have been contested, after the discipline debuted at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, United States.
With sixes set for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028, Karlsruhe adds another marquee multi-sport competition to the discipline’s calendar.
World Lacrosse CEO Jim Scherr said: “The confirmation of both men’s and women’s sixes for The World Games 2029 is a great step forward for our sport. Karlsruhe will give our athletes another world-class multi-sport stage, and with sixes set for the LA28 Olympics, the opportunity for our member nations to compete at this level is more valuable than ever. We are grateful to the International World Games Association and the Karlsruhe Organizing Committee for their support of lacrosse, and we look forward to showcasing the very best of our sport in Germany.”
Lacrosse has been contested at three previous editions of The World Games. Women’s field was played in 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland, followed by men’s and women’s sixes in 2022 in Birmingham. Women’s sixes returned in 2025 in Chengdu, China, with an eight-team competition.
Approximately 4,000 athletes from more than 100 countries are expected to compete in Karlsruhe from July 19-29, 2029.
Details on the competition format, team allocations and qualification pathway will be confirmed at a later date.
