The 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship, set for June 18-27 in Tokyo, Japan, now has its 16-team field confirmed after the last continental qualifier concluded.
The championship is the first edition of the Men’s Championship to be held in World Lacrosse’s 16-team format, in which all teams had to qualify from continental championships. Teams will be drawn in 2027 into four pools without a pool of the top-ranked teams in the world as in previous championships. This format mirrors the 16-team 2026 WL Women’s Championship held in Japan in July.
Japan, as the host, automatically qualified, leaving three other allocated spots from the Asia-Pacific Lacrosse Union. The Pan-American Lacrosse Association was allocated five teams, with the European Lacrosse Federation allocated seven. The Africa Association of Lacrosse did not hold a qualifier for the Men’s Championship.
The European Men’s Lacrosse Championship was held in July of 2025, followed by the Asia-Pacific Men’s Lacrosse Championship in January of 2026. The Pan-American Men’s Lacrosse Championship was just held in August of 2026.
All 16 teams appeared in the last edition of the men’s championship in 2023 in San Diego in the United States, with the top ten teams in the world all returning.

World Lacrosse will announce the pools followed by the schedule in 2027. The World Lacrosse calendar turns to sixes in the closing months of 2026 with four continental men’s and women’s sixes championships to determine the pairs of 16-team fields at the World Lacrosse Sixes Championships in late 2027.
The field for the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship Division II will be confirmed in the coming months.
