Salou, Spain, was today announced as host of the 2026 European Sixes Lacrosse Championships, with the women’s competition set for November 2-9 and the men’s competition from November 10-18.
The continental championships, hosted by the European Lacrosse Federation and España Lacrosse, will serve as the qualifiers for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships.
The 2026 European Sixes Lacrosse Championships will also be the initial step in the qualification process for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 for European teams, pending approval by the International Olympic Committee.
The dual championships will be held at the Mediterranean Sports Hub, a sports complex with both grass and turf fields, and a stadium. Salou is on the southern coast of Spain approximately 100 kilometers from Barcelona, and the venue hosts more than 40 tournaments per year in multiple sports.
The 2027 Sixes Championships will feature the top 16 men’s and women’s teams in the world and will serve as the primary qualifier for LA28. Continental allocations are anticipated to be finalized by the end of the year, which will determine the number of spots available to teams at the ESLC.
The ESLC is the second announced qualifier for the 2027 Sixes Championships, with the 2026 Asia-Pacific Lacrosse Championships scheduled in October in Australia.
World Lacrosse will announce full details on the Olympic qualification process and the other continental sixes championships in the coming months.
In international sixes lacrosse, ELF teams have competed in men’s and women’s sixes at The World Games in 2022 and 2025, as well as an annual EuroLax Sixes Cup in Portugal and various other global events.
