Puerto Rico coasts past Netherlands behind record-setting Nick Testa performance for play-in win at Men’s U20 Championship

Puerto Rico exploded for another 20-point showing against the Netherlands in a 26-9 win in the play-in round, fueled by a single-game point record by Nick Testa at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship on Wednesday in Seogwipo.

Nick Testa had already tied for the single-game high in Korea with 10 points. Against the Netherlands, Testa took it upon himself to rewrite the record book with 17 points total on eight goals and nine assists on an array of highlight-reel plays.

The output was the most at the Men’s U20 Championship since at least 2016. Testa entered the game as the tournament’s leading point scorer with 21, and exited with 38 points and a 20-point cushion to the next highest total to a player from another team.

Puerto Rico advanced to the quarterfinal round to take on the Haudenosaunee, the fourth seed, on Thursday at 9 a.m. Puerto Rico finished eighth in its debut at the event in 2022 and has looked like one of the sharpest teams in Korea, setting up a titanic matchup against the four-time defending bronze medallists.

The Netherlands will move into placement play towards ninth place, playing on Thursday at 7:10 p.m.

The Netherlands battled hard through the first quarter and were tied 2-2, and then trailing 4-3 after answering a Puerto Rico run.

But the Puerto Rico attack shifted into a higher gear, hanging up six goals on the Netherlands defense in a seven-minute span to enter halftime up 11-5.

From there, Testa had his hand in a parade of Puerto Rico goals, with four assists in the third quarter and three goals and two assists in the fourth. Testa finished with a contribution on 65% of Puerto Rico’s output on the day.

Puerto Rico outshot the Netherlands 81-21, with 48 shots on goal. Sean Laureano stuffed the stat sheet in his own right with 10 points on four goals and six assists while Harrison Wolpoe and Lorenzo Varona had five goals each.

Chris Testa and Wilfredo Crispin helped Puerto Rico to a 30 of 36 rate on face-offs.

Gus von Metzsch made 22 saves for the Netherlands. Callum Witter had six points on two goals and four assists while Ryker Babcock scored three.
