World Lacrosse to debut new championship trophy collection by Ottewill

World Lacrosse today announced it has commissioned renowned silversmith Ottewill to design and produce a new collection of championship trophies.

The new World Lacrosse championship trophies will represent a stunning blend of tradition, heritage and modern design, paying tribute to the sport’s Native American roots while celebrating its global community and bright future. Each trophy in the family will be a true work of art, meticulously crafted to reflect the spirit and unity of lacrosse.

The Ashford, England, based Ottewill is renowned for its work on international sports trophies, having created coveted prizes for the ICC, FIBA, UEFA and the Henley Royal Regatta.

Each of the eight WL trophies will be handmade in Ottewill’s workshop over the course of the next two years. While each of the three WL championship disciplines – box, field and sixes – have unique designs, they will feature shared elements:

  • Native American Tribute // Each discipline design features a unique motif or symbol that pays homage to the sport’s Native American heritage. These symbols – such as the eagle feather and the medicine wheel – represent strength, wisdom, health and the spiritual connection that the sport fosters among its athletes and communities.
  • Gold Mesh // Each of the trophies features a gold-plated mesh that elegantly twists and curves, forming a structure that resembles both the net of a lacrosse goal and the head of a lacrosse stick. This mesh is not only a functional element but also a powerful symbol of the interwoven global lacrosse community.
  • Silhouette // All the trophy designs feature a silhouette that evokes the shape of early wood lacrosse sticks. The craftsmanship involved in creating those sticks is a testament to the deep cultural significance and enduring legacy of lacrosse.

The namesakes of the retiring trophies will be carried through to the new designs, honoring the history of the game while now in a more modern form.

The full collection will be unveiled following the women’s U20 championship:

  • Women’s Championship
  • Men’s Championship – Laurie Turnbull Trophy
  • Women’s U20 Championship – Margaret Boyd Trophy
  • Men’s U20 Championship – Tom Hayes Trophy
  • Women’s Box Championship
  • Men’s Box Championship – Stan Cockerton Trophy
  • Women’s Sixes Championship
  • Men’s Sixes Championship
