(HANOVER, GE) A U17 Lacrosse Festival was held during the Women’s U19 World Lacrosse Championship in Hanover, Germany. The U17 Festival was dedicated to the late Ken Galluccio and therefore named in his honor: The Ken Galluccio Memorial Lacrosse Festival.
U17 teams from around the world participated in the festival from August 8-12, 2011, and watched the U19 finals on Saturday, August 13.
Abbie Ness, an Attacker on the Minnesota Lakers Select (US club team) recently[February of 2013] shared her experience at the festival:
I had the opportunity to travel to Hanover, Germany in August of 2011 to play in the Ken Galluccio Memorial Lacrosse Festival with the Minnesota Lakers Select. The trip gave me a chance to experience another culture but more importantly, the opportunity to meet and play against lacrosse players from around the world!
“It was amazing to see how girls from so many different countries and backgrounds come together and relate to one other.”
—Abbie Ness, Minnesota Lakers Select Attacker
We played talented teams from England, Germany, Wales, Scotland, Canada and the US. Off the field, we got to know the girls in the hostel where we all stayed. It was amazing to see how girls from so many different countries and backgrounds come together and relate to one other.
We became fast friends with the Welsh and Scottish girls and I stay in contact with some of them through Facebook still today. This experience changed my perspective on the girls from other countries and helped me to realize how much we are alike!
